DYS IN YOUTH FIELD: MAKING YOUTH WORK TRULY INCLUSIVE

Every young person deserves a chance to shine — but for those with Specific Learning Disorders (SLD), opportunities in youth work are often limited. Traditional approaches don’t always take their needs into account, leaving them underrepresented and struggling to fully participate.

The Dys in Youth Field project is here to change that. Our mission is simple: give youth workers the right tools, knowledge, and resources to create spaces where all young people feel included, supported, and empowered.

Youth work has enormous potential to boost confidence, creativity, and participation. Yet, for many young people with SLD, barriers like a lack of awareness, inaccessible materials, or outdated methods get in the way.

That’s where we come in. By rethinking the way youth work is designed, we’re building bridges between youth workers and young people with SLD — ensuring everyone has a fair shot at taking part, contributing, and even leading.

The project combines innovation, gamification, and digital solutions to create practical tools that youth workers can use right away. Here’s what’s coming:

  • 🎓 Training for youth workers: Online courses to help build accessible and inclusive environments.
  • 🎲 A gamified toolkit: Because learning (and participation) should be fun!
  • 🤝 Awareness activities: A collection of interactive exercises that foster understanding among peers and professionals.
  • 📘 Adaptation guidelines: Clear, user-friendly advice on how to make existing training materials more inclusive for young people with SLD.

Together, these resources will make inclusion not just an ideal, but an everyday practice.

By the end of the project, we want to:

  • Boost youth workers’ skills and confidence in supporting young people with SLD.
  • Raise awareness of SLD in the youth sector.
  • Deliver tools that continue to be useful long after the project ends.
  • Empower young people with SLD to step forward, participate, and even facilitate youth activities themselves.

With a strong team of partners from across Europe, Dys in Youth Field is paving the way toward more inclusive youth work. Our vision is clear: every young person, regardless of their learning profile, deserves to feel valued and involved.

Stay tuned as we share our progress — and join us in shaping youth work that truly works for everyone!
